Professor Jon Garibaldi appointed as the new Provost for the University of Nottingham Ningbo China

Professor Jon Garibaldi has been appointed as the new Provost for the University of Nottingham Ningbo China. He will take up this role in Ningbo from 1 January 2024.

Professor Garibaldi is currently Head of School of Computer Science at the University of Nottingham, as well as Head of the Intelligent Modelling and Analysis Research Group and one of the Founding Directors of the Advanced Data Analysis Centre. He has been working in the School of Computer Science at the University of Nottingham since 2002, including as Director of Teaching and, since January 2016, Head of School.

Professor Garibaldi is an IEEE Fellow, a member of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society Administrative Committee, and was former Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems.

“He will continue the excellent work of developing our reputation in China as a destination for the nation’s brightest students and as a hub and conduit for the University of Nottingham’s world-class research and knowledge exchange.”

Professor Jon Garibaldi said: “I am really looking forward to taking up my new role as Provost at UNNC, to work with all the staff, students and other partners. As we are about to celebrate our first twenty years in Ningbo, we have an opportunity to build on this success to further improve student learning experience, research, knowledge exchange, global engagement and environmental sustainability.

“I would also like to thank the staff in the School of Computer Science; it has been a real pleasure to work with everyone in the School over the last eight years. Whilst sad to be leaving colleagues here, I am very excited to join the talented team in Ningbo, and to help continue the fantastic work there.”
